Councilwoman Joan Cergol and Town Board Members Present GHCYBC with a Proclamation January 29, 2019 Councilwoman Joan Cergol and town board members present GHCYBC with a proclamation in recognition of the fund drive that was initiated to help Coast Guard Station Eatons Neck and New Haven. GHCYBC raised almost 10,000 during shutdown.  Centerport YC, Northport YC and the HLPS also contributed $1000 each. Lawmakers Push To Pass Ryan’s Law January 25, 2019 | The Long Islander – Members of Huntington’s delegation to the state legislature are looking to pass legislation they hope will prevent boating accidents on state waterways. The legislation, known as Ryan’s Law, is named for 12-year-old Ryan John Weiss who was tragically killed in July 2017 during an instructional boating lesson in the waters off Centerport Yacht Club. Community Collects Some Relief For Coasties January 21, 2019 | The Long Islander – As the government shutdown enters its fourth week, private sector relief is finding its way to furloughed federal workers, including local Coast Guardsmen stationed at Eaton’s Neck. A drive hastily organized by Seymour’s Boatyard owner Dave Weber with help from Northport Fire Department brought in thousands in donated gas and grocery store cards along with monetary donations over the course of a weekend. January 9th, 2019 – As the year begins we count our blessings and are optimistic about the future. Unfortunately, there are some folks in our “boating family” who are less fortunate at the moment. January 2nd, 2019 – To kick off the 2019 boating season, Neptune Boating Club is offering a comprehensive Sail course starting Monday, February 4th, 2019.Learn all about basic sailboat designs, nomenclature, rigging, and safety taught by experienced local sailors from America’s Boating Club!Then tackle the physical aspects of sailing forces and techniques, sail applications, marlinespike, helmsmanship, and handling of difficult sailing conditions. February 23, 2017 – The Long Islander/By Janee Law The Huntington Town Board has accepted a $2,000 donation from the Greater Huntington Council of Yacht and Boating Clubs intended to make the waters of Huntington and Northport harbors safer for boaters. The funds were approved Feb. 7 and donated to the town's department of maritime services. They'll be used to purchase of LED solar navigation lights that will be affixed on 13 channel markers in the harbors, according to town officials.
